Friends of Forest Lodge
Mission Statement: The mission of the Friends of Forest Lodge is to preserve, promote, and protect the history of Forest Lodge through the creation and operation of the Winter House Museum on the Rapid River. The Museum will interpret the life and times of best-selling author Louise Dickinson Rich, offering a glimpse of life on the river during the 1930’s and 40’s as chronicled in her book “We Took to the Woods”.
We also support ongoing efforts to protect the Rapid River wild brook trout fishery and the continued stewardship of the river as envisioned by Aldro French, Keeper of the Lodge. Please join us in this important work!

Meet Aldro French
Aldro French is affectionately known as “Keeper of the Lodge”. April through October finds Aldro in the woods at Forest Lodge, hosting anglers, family and friends, plus anyone wanting to learn more about Louise Dickenson Rich. His dream has long been to create a museum to preserve the rich heritage of that well-known author who wrote her most famous works while living year-round at Forest Lodge.

Project Healing Waters
In recent years, Forest Lodge has been host to groups of disabled American veterans who are looking for a special wilderness fishing experience. Thanks to Aldro and dozens of dedicated fishing guides this has been a most rewarding experience for all involved.
Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is a national program dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active duty military personnel and veterans. Those fortunate enough to visit Forest Lodge can attest there is indeed something “healing” that cannot always be put into words but leaves each with long-lasting memories.
